College Gameday host Rece Davis joins Off the Bench to talk LSU’s match-up with Florida. Davis said Florida’s defense poses a threat.

“I think they’re really good,” Davis said. “They bring a lot of pressure and they do it in a variety of ways.”

Davis said there was one area of the game that will have specifically large impact: the line battle.

“I think it’ll be a fun one,” Davis said. “Each side is going to have some wins; that’s what happens when two good units go against each other. (The trenches) will be the match-up that will determine the game.”

Also, the coaching match-up is important, but it does not fully determine the outcome, Davis said.

“We talk so much about the coaches that we undersell the ability of a guy to make a play,” Davis said. “You give them opportunities to make plays, and whoever does that will have the advantage.”

Heading into the game, each team has much at stake, but Davis believes it means more for one team.

“It probably means more to LSU because it’s a home game,” Davis said. “You would like to go into that (later part) of the schedule not in a do-or-die situation.”

Davis said that Coach Orgeron’s offensive metrics are due to his progressive mindset.

“He wanted to change. Ed actually did it,” Davis said. “I think he deserves a ton of credit for that aspect of it. So many coaches are so stubborn… they don’t recognize something that needs to have a substantive change. I’ve been really impressed by what he’s been able to do there.”
